Marlene is an energy Executive with over 25 years serving the Utilities, Manufacturing and Technology industries.  She has extensive experience in the areas of Strategic and Business Planning, Grid Optimization, Asset Management, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, and in achieving digital transformation with the effective use of big data and analytics.  She is a master strategist with high analytical, technical and marketing skills and helps businesses and companies achieve growth and profitability. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University, Ottawa Canada and an M.B.A from the University of Toledo.  She has been recognized for Excellence in Marketing by S&P Who's Who.  While at Consumers Energy, she was selected for and completed the University of Michigan’s prestigious Executive Management Course.  She served on the Board of IMSofTech. Marlene continues to stay engaged with organizations that address child hunger and prevent child abuse.

Accomplishments

  • Key contributor in helping utilities manage the change of a new environment, new opportunities in the energy market, regulatory changes, new technologies and emerging customer needs.

  • Appointed by the CEO of Progress Energy to serve for one year on a national consortium of energy providers as executive lead Strategist to develop strategies and policies on business transformation, operational performance, change management, new processes, and marketing.

  • Appointed to an Executive Leadership Group at UtiliCorp United, now Kansas City Power and Light, to look at massive consolidations, re-structuring and cost reduction efforts and develop strategies to move the utility forward in a new and exciting direction.

  • Led the product development efforts at ABB, from the customer side, of an Asset Lifecycle Management system and created the business plan, go-to-market strategy, product development strategy and market release of this solution.

  • Created strategic business plans and developed the North America, Central America, Canada and Caribbean markets for ABB around Renewable Energy, Smart Grid, Big Data and  Analytics, resulting in growth and company awareness across the region.

  • Led a team of Product Development Engineers at SAS,  the world’s largest privately owned analytics software company, in developing solutions to support Smart Grid Initiatives.

  • As General Manager and President of a software division within a multinational and multi-billion dollar enterprise, Marlene revitalized an underperforming company by championing functional excellence organization-wide and by improving all major business processes, including those for purchasing, engineering, quality control, sales, marketing, software development, training and customer service.

  • Prepared five-year strategic, two-year tactical and one-year operational plans to enable customers to make better informed business decisions, mitigate risk and take bold actions that drive progress.
